Keeping In Contact On Moving Day

Moving seems to involve tracking hundreds of tiny details, from the phone numbers f all the utility providers to which box you favorite sneakers are in. Amidst all the chaos of the small details, don't lose track of one of the largest- the moving trucks and their drivers!

Here are some tips on keeping in contact:

  • Confirm start times, departure times and arrival times with everyone the day before the move, just to avoid any last-minute confusion.
  • Program important numbers into your cell phone so you don't have to scramble for them in the chaos of Moving Day. This includes numbers for any utilities set to start on your Moving Day.
  • If you're using professional movers, ask for the "after hours" or emergency phone number in case something goes wrong.
  • Make sure everyone's cell phone is fully charged for Moving Day. That includes friends and family coming to help.
  • CRITICAL: Exchange cell phone numbers with anyone driving a vehicle containing your possessions, and have them test a call to your cell phone to make sure they have it entered correcly.
  • Try to have maps pre-printed from Google Maps or Mapquest from your old place to your new place, avoiding any roads with truck restrictions. This will help keep everyone from getting lost.
These easy tips should save a lot of worry, wear and tear and stress on Moving Day.
